Dentist West Ashley - Anxiety-free Crowns from your Dentist in West Ashley

A dental crown is a cap that covers all visible surfaces of a tooth. It provides strength and protects a tooth that is damage from trauma, has a large filling, or a root canal.

There's no need to feel apprehensive if you need a dental crown. Dr. Greenberg and Dr. Hardwicke at Mouth Carolina Dentistry will handle your restoration with a combination of precision and compassion.

At your initial visit, damage to your tooth is assessed. If endodontic treatment (a root canal) is needed, we'll get you out of pain immediately and perform the procedure in office or refer you to an endodontist.

For a tooth that is decayed or compromised, we'll begin by getting you settled in the dental chair, and numbing that area of your mouth to ensure a painless treatment. Then we remove all decay or damage. A filling is placed at this point, if needed.

We'll talk about your options for the material to be used for your crown, based on the location of the tooth and your budget. Back teeth are subjected to quite a lot of bite pressure. Gold or other metals are strong and durable for these teeth. But a porcelain fused to metal crown may be more aesthetic. For the ultimate in strength and aesthetics we will use zirconia, a type of ceramic. For front teeth, we recommend porcelain fused to zirconia, also known as Lava crowns for a lovely, natural-looking match.

The remainder of the tooth is shaped - the enamel is removed to allow the crown to fit. We take impressions of your mouth, a bite registration, a shade, and possibly digital photographs and measurements. This information is sent to our team of expert ceramicists in the dental laboratory where your permanent crown is precisely and artistically crafted for delivery.

Meanwhile, we place a temporary crown over the prepped tooth to protect it, allow you to eat normally, and to keep the tooth from moving.

At your second visit, we remove the temporary and every bit of residual cement. Usually no numbing is needed. Your new restoration is permanently bonded into place where it will look and function like a natural tooth for many years.

Don't put off having that tooth repaired. A crown from Mouth Carolina Dentistry will put a smile back on your face.
