Dental Implants

One of the newest and most exciting fields of modern dentistry is Implant Dentistry which involves the placement of a single or multiple titanium "screws" into your jaw commonly to replace missing teeth. In the months after your implant's placement (typically six months) the bone in your jaw will "osteointegrate" or become attached to the precisely machined and sterilized "screws" as if they were not foreign. In some situations in which the chance of rejection is higher, the implants can be coated with blood cells which are obtained from the patient's centrifuged blood in an effort to aid the integration process.

Implants can serve as roots for crowns, bridges, or as anchors for over-dentures in combination with o-rings which are processed on the underside of your denture(s).

If you desire an implant and it is deemed the ideal solution for you dental needs we will coordinate your implant placement surgery with our outside team of implantologists who will place your implant to our precise specifications.

Following your surgery you will return to Mouth Carolina for impressions and the placement of a temporary restoration if required. We will then send your impression to the lab and upon its return we will cement it onto your implant in your final procedural appointment.

Depending on the location of the implant and your unique oral conditions there may be additional surgeries required including but not limited to; sinus lift, bone grafting, and/or ridge augmentation in order to provide sufficient bone height and width to predictably house an implant.

With the extremely high success rates of modern implants, dentists have had to shift their treatment planning to include implants in situations where before we would perform root canals and/or crown lengthening surgeries. This is because the probability of the implant being intact in ten years may be higher than a root canaled tooth with a crown on it. This means dentists and patients can take fewer risks in these situations and enjoy more predictable results.
